    The utilization of computer technology in medical science has been extending during recent years. Laser eye surgery has become increasingly more popular, while non-laser processes have also improved. Although many men and women think that LASIK is the sole type of refractive surgery, there are actually various types of eye care for correcting vision.

    Laser Eye Surgery

    These processes involve using a laser to reshape the cornea in order to enhance the eye’s ability to focus. There are several forms of laser eye surgery, such as LASIK, LASEK, Intralense or PRK.

    The surgeon removes a flap through the outer and middle layer of the cornea and then uses an excimer laser to remove tissue under the flap. This type of eye surgery usually takes about one minute per eye.

    LASEK is quite similar to LASIK, but for the fact that the flap is cut only from the outer layer of the cornea (epithelium). It’s used mainly for patients with thin corneas, who aren’t eligible for LASIK. It’s a newer process with a few drawbacks, for example more discomfort and slightly longer recovery period.

    This type of eye surgery is also very similar to LASIK, but that the surgeon uses an excess laser instead of a blade to make the flap in the outer layers.

    A laser is used to remove tissue from the outer layer of the cornea and proper eyesight. The surgeon does not cut any flap in the cornea. The operation usually lasts under a minute.

    Non-laser Eye Surgery

    These surgical procedures involve enhancing vision by cutting into the surface of the eye, reshaping the cornea or utilizing low heating waves.

    Astigmatic Keratotomy Incisions

    This process can be used to correct moderate astigmatism. Bulgy areas of the cornea are reshaped using a blade. Many patients undergo such a treatment together with different types of eye surgery. However, it’s now less often used than laser eye surgery procedures, such as PRK or LASIK.

    Implantable Contact Lenses

    These are implantation devices used to treat acute farsightedness and nearsightedness. The lens is placed behind the iris, in the front of the natural lens of the eye. Unlike
