    Take a break from your daily routine and plan an amazing vacation by yourself or with your family. These tips contain everything you need to know to be prepared, save money and have a great time. Get ready ahead of time and make sure you enjoy your vacation.

    Make arrangements for your pets while you will be away. Have a neighbor or friend come over to feed, walk and check in on them, at least once per day. They will feel more secure knowing that they will have fresh food and water and will be less stir crazy than if they were left alone for a long period of time.

    When traveling to many areas of the world, be aware of the nature of the plumbing. For example, toilet paper is not meant to go into the sewer pipes in much of the world. Instead, there will be a small basket next to the toilet to hold the paper.

Unfortunately, many hotels and their concierge services have agreements with certain businesses to steer guests to them, regardless of whether or not it is in your best interest. Instead, scope out a place that looks like your style and ask other customers for additional recommendations.

    If you wish to travel abroad, try learning about the language. You can easily find small guides that contain all the essential words, in case you get lost or need something. Do not assume that everybody will speak English and people will be more friendly if you try speaking their language.

    Don’t tempt robbers! Especially when traveling abroad or in unsafe areas, don’t make your belongings look tempting to steal. Instead of carrying around shiny new backpacks and gear, use older things. If you don’t have any older gear that will work, stick some duct tape on your new pack to give the impression that it is older.

    If you’re going on a cruise with your family, pack along some Walkie-talkies. Cruise ships are basically floating cities and it’s very easy to get separated. Walkie-talkies can help everyone keep in touch, especially if you don’t get cell phone reception or if you’re out of the country and don’t want to pay heavy international charges.

    You can see exotic animal and plant life in the memorable and remarkable vistas of the desert. There is something especially memorable about deserts for the first-time visitor, and no one should go their entire lives without experiencing the austere majesty of the desert.

    American travelers who have not left the country in several years should be aware that they definitely need an up-to-date passport. For a long time it was possible for US citizens to visit Mexico and Canada without such documentation. This is no longer the case, with modern security concerns. American travelers should have their passports in order if they intend to visit any other country.

    Bring a power strip along with you when you go out of the country. This may seem like a silly idea to some, but if you have a room with two outlets and you have two cell phones, two laptops and an MP3 player that needs recharging, what are you going to do? Having a power strip prevents these dilemmas and also, you will only need to buy one adapter for foreign plugs.

    Tired of the same boring road trip? Next time you have to pack up and go to an out-of-town event, try something different. After you map your main driving route, pick a few random places off the beaten path to stop at along the way. It could be a small mom-and-pop diner, a state park or maybe your first visit to a comic book store. Not only will this break up your drive, you will have added memories to keep forever.

    If you want to make conversation with the locals, learn a little magic trick. Magic is something that is almost universally understood. If you perform a tiny trick for someone, you will open the door to having an actual conversation with the person. Simple tricks are easy to learn, so look one up!

    Exchange your money at your bank before you leave for your trip. Large financial institutions often have the best exchange rates, and changing your money before you arrive ensures you can avoid long lines at the airport currency exchange or even worse, being left at the mercy of less-scrupulous exchanges which prey on travelers who need local currency fast.

    Be willing to learn about new cultures and people. Do not take narrow-minded ideas on your travels. You will be meeting and interacting with a wide range of people and they may have very different ideas than you have. If you are judgmental, you will likely miss much of the beauty of your destination.

    To make the most of your travel budget, as well as your home budget, avoid taking it all with you. Taking too much money on a trip can quickly affect how the six months after the trip will go. Do not forget that you will have to return to the real world.

    To pack light while traveling, make time to plan ahead. Lay articles of clothing out before you pack, and make sure that each top can go with more than one bottom. Bring clothes that are comfortable and easy to wash, in case you need to do laundry on the road. Think carefully about the shoes you bring. It is best to wear your bulkiest items on the flight, to make more room in your luggage.

    When packing for the beach during your trip, try packing your gear separately into a beach bag that can easily fit in your luggage. This is a great time saver since it will be packed prior to your beach outing, and it can also save time if you have kids on your trip.

    The quality of a vacation is greatly influenced by how well prepared and informed you are. Reading these tips is just the beginning and you still have some work to do.
